What is the Smart Fax service?
Smart Fax is a fax to e-mail service that enables you to receive and manage fax documents as e-mails directly in your Inbox.
Smart Fax eliminates the need for a second telephone line and the waste of paper. People simply dial your
Smart Fax number to send you faxes. Note that if you have a
Smart Number DID, you can add fax functions to your service by activating the Auto-Fax option.
Here are some of the Smart Fax features:
- You can access, view and print your fax messages from your Web portal or any e-mail reader.
- You can organize your faxes in customer folders for future reference and follow-up.
- You can also have the assistant alert you when you receive new faxes.
- A Web interface enables you to keep track of all faxes received.
How to set up Smart Fax
The Smart Fax service requires a DID number and works only with gateways with fax capabilities.

What is Smart Fax?

Answer: Smart Fax is an advanced Smart Number feature that enables you to receive faxes on the same telephone number where you receive your voice calls: your DID. With Smart Fax, Evatel automatically detects incoming faxes, receives them and sends them to your mailbox. Smart Fax is available only to users with a private DID number. The fax option requires a fax-enabled gateway.
Do I Need A DID to use Smart Fax?
Answer: YES. you need a direct telephone number (DID) for your Smart Fax service. This DID becomes your personal Smart Fax number.
How can People Send me Faxs with Smart Fax?
Answer: People can send you faxes on your Smart Fax number simply by dialing your number from a fax machine as they would to send any other fax. Your Smart Fax number plays the role of a fax-to-email service. The fax option requires a fax-enabled gateway.
What is Unified Messaging?
Answer: Evatel sends your voice messages and faxes to your e-mail account. Your faxes and voice messages are stored in your Inbox together with your e-mails to enable you to access them by phone or from your desktop or Web e-mail reader. This is the unified messaging feature of Evatel.
Where are my faxes Stored?
Answer: All your received faxes are stored in your e-mail account on your mail server. Evatel does not keep any copies of your faxes.
How Do I Access my Faxes?
Answer: You have many ways to access your Evatel faxes:
- Using an e-mail readersuch as Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes. You can view and print your faxes, archive them, forward them or delete them from your desktop as you would for any of your e-mails.
- By phone. You can hear a short description of your faxes, archive them, forward them or delete them by phone.
