Phone Session Preferences

You can set your preferences to personalize your phone sessions: dialog mode, audio played during message download, voice interface skill level and training and practice sessions. Here are the options available:

Telephone Dialog Mode

You can select one of the following two dialog modes for your phone sessions:
  1. Speech and DTMF commands: In this mode, you can use speech and DTMF (touchtone) commands interchangeably during the same phone session. In this mode, the virtual assistant will be listening and interpreting any audio or tone it gets.
  2. DTMF commands only: In this mode, only DTMF (touchtone) commands are accepted by the virtual assistant. Speech commands are ignored. This mode can be practical in noisy environments.
Here are the steps to change your dialog mode:
  • Go to Phone Sessions section in your Settings page
  • Select "Speech & Touchtone" or "Touchtone-only" from the list offered in the Default Dialog Mode field.
  • Click Apply to confirm.
The virtual assistant will now communicate with you using your newly selected dialog mode.

Audio Played While Downloading Mail Messages

Select the type of audio you want the virtual assistant to play while downloading messages from your mail server:
  • Music Only. Music will be played while your messages are being downloaded. One or several music on hold themes and ring tones can be played. Music stops as soon as the messages are downloaded.

Speech Interface Level

The speech user interface can be adapted to your experience level  with the system. You may need a directed dialog mode in the beginning, but prefer the faster, more sophisticated commands when you become familiar with the system. Select the type of speech interface you want the assistant to use with you. Choose the skill level that best suits your needs:
  1. Beginner Mode would give you more assistance and guidance during your phone sessions with your assistant. This mode is recommended for users with little experience with the system.
  2. Intermediate Mode would enable you to say more simple, "natural language"-like speech commands. This mode is designed for people who are starting to get used to the voice interface.
  3. Expert Mode would enable you to say "natural language"-like speech commands for faster results. This mode is designed for people familiar with the system's speech interface.

Voice Training Program

When you switch your speech interface level to "Expert Mode", your assistant takes you through an online tutorial program that includes training sessions and tips on how to use the assistant services efficiently. You can instruct your virtual assistant to abort the online tutorial program as follows:

Skip the remaining voice training program

  • Change to "Yes" if you want the assistant to stop offering you any remaining segments of the tutorial program.
