How to Setup Mail Access Connection using POP3

Prepare your POP3 Mailbox for Remote Access

 It is recommended to configure your POP3 e-mail account to keep a copy of your emails on the server.

Enable POP3 for your Outlook.com account

Here is how to turn on POP for your Outlook.com account:

  1. Sign in to your Outlook.com account.
  2. Click the Options icon, and then click Options.
  3. Under Managing your account, click Connect devices and apps with POP.
  4. Under POP, select Enable.
  5. Select Don't let devices or apps delete messages … to prevent devices and apps from deleting messages from the inbox after downloading them.
  6. Click Save.

NOTE:This setting applies to all POP email apps that you might be using with your Outlook.com account.

Enable POP3 for your yahoo.com account

  1. Sign in to Yahoo Mail.
  2. Mouse over the Settings menu icon Gear Icon, then select Settings. The "Settings" window opens.
  3. Click Accounts. At the right of "Yahoo Account," click Edit. - A window with additional account settings opens.
  4. To the right of "Access your Yahoo Mail elsewhere," select POP.
  5. Select the POP option: Don't download spam email
  6. Click Save.

Configure access to your Yahoo account on the Web portal

Make sure to specify the following parameters:

Incoming Mail (POP) Server

  • Server - pop.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 995
  • Requires SSL - Yes
  • Select Keep a copy of messages on the server.

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

  • Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port : 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL - Yes
  • Requires authentication - Yes

Click OK.

Enter your POP3 Username and Password

Enter the credentials that you use to access your mailbox using POP3. The requested information should be tested on your mail account using an POP3 client such as Outlook Express.
  1. User Name: This is the username you use to login to your POP3 mailbox.
  2. Password: This is your login password.

You may have to provide your Mail Server Name. This is the address or host name of your IMAP mail server. It usually has the form of pop.mailserver.com or mail.emailserver.com. Your service provider or system administrator can give you this information.

Store and Manage your POP3 Contacts on the Web Portal

POP3 servers do not host contacts. You must therefore store and manage your voice directory contacts on the Web portal where you can import your existing POP3 contacts. Select to store and manage your contacts on the Web portal as follows:
  • Click on Contactsto display the Contact Management page.
  • Select how you want duplicate contacts to be treated: Reject Duplicates or Overwrite existing ones.
  • Select My Contacts are on my CSV file
  • Click Browseto select the file that contains the contacts you want to import then click OK. Make sure you select the CSV file type.
  • Click Import. A dialog box appears showing your contacts update results.  Click OK.

At anytime, you can go to the Contactspage to add, import and modify your contacts. Go to Managing your Contacts on the Web for more details.
