Telephone Zones

This section allows you to specify the area codes that will be considered in the same local calling zone, i.e. calls between subscribers in these area codes will be treated as local calls. Long distance charges will apply to calls that go outside the telephone zone. Only System Administrators can manage telephone zones.

From the Telephone Zones page you can:

  1. Create telephone zones.
  2. Delete telephone zones.
  3. Modify telephone zones.
  4. Export a list of telephone zones to a PDF of CSV file.
  5. Sort and search telephone zones.

Interace Overview

The Telephone Zones page displays the list of telephone zones defined on your system with the following information:

 Check the box next to one or several telephone zones to apply certain actions on them (ex: export details).

Zone

 Name of the telephone zone. Click this link to access the Telephone Zone settings.

Area Codes

 List of area code(s) included in the telephone zone. Click this link to access the Telephone Zone settings.

Create a Telephone Zone

To create a telephone zone:

  • From the main menu, click Telephone Zones.
  • Click the New button.
  • Fill in the fields as required. See Telephone Zone Settings for details.
  • Click Save to create the new telephone zone.

Delete a Telephone Zone

Warning: Deleting a telephone zone will affect long distance charges for all subscribers in that zone.

To delete a telephone zone:

  • From the main menu, click Telephone Zones.
  • Check the box next to the name of one or several zones that you want to delete.
  • Click the  Delete button.
  • A confirmation window will open.
  • Click OK to confirm the deletion.

Modify a Telephone Zone

To modify a telephone zone:

  • From the main menu, click Telephone Zones.
  • In the Zone column, click the name of the telephone zone to modify.
  • Modify the fields as required. See Telephone Zone Settings for details.
  • Click Save to update the telephone zone settings.

Telephone Zone Settings

Zone Name

Enter the name of the telephone zone. Example: Montreal Area.

Area Code

Area code to be included in the telephone zone. Enter an area code and press the add button to add it to the Area Codes box below. Repeat the process for each area code to be included in the telephone zone. You can enter as many area codes as required. 

Area Codes

List of area codes included in the telephone zone. To delete an area code, select it and click the  Delete button.

Export Telephone Zones

You can export a list of telephone zones to a CSV or PDF file.

Export to a CSV File

To export telephone zones to a CSV file:

  • From the main menu, click Telephone Zones.
  • Select the telephone zones to export:
    • One or several telephone zones: Check the box next to the names of the telephone zones to export.
    • All telephone zones: Check the box at the top of the list. All telephone zones will automatically be selected.
  • Click the  CSV button to open the export window.
  • By default, the file is named TelephoneZones.csv and ready to be saved to a directory on your computer.
    • Change the file name if needed but keep the CSV extension. Example: rename TelephoneZones.csv to MyTelephoneZones.csv.
    • Make sure that you are saving the file to the desired directory.
  • Click Save.

Export to a PDF Document

To export telephone zones to a PDF file:

  • From the main menu, click Telephone Zones.
  • Select the telephone zones to export:
    • One or several telephone zones: Check the box next to the names of telephone zones to export.
    • All telephone zones: Check the box at the top of the list. All telephone zones will automatically be selected.
  • Click the  PDF button to open the export window.
  • The PDF document will automatically open in a new window ready to be saved to the default directory on your computer.

Search Telephone Zones

You can quickly find telephone zones by searching for a keyword or area code.

Type the area code or keyword in the first row (blank field) to list the telephone zones that include the area code or string. For example, type "514" in the Area Codes column and press enter to view all telephone zones containing the "514".

To reset the search filter, erase the area code or keyword entered and press enter.

Sort Telephone Zones

Click on any column heading to sort the list of telephone zones alphabetically or numerically based on the type of data in the column.
